How I arrived at teaching Pilates and why I am still obsessed!
In 1982 I was working as a nurse in a London hospital and was really busy on the wards, loving my active life. Unfortunately, at the age of 21 I had a serious car accident which left me with life changing injuries. I was told by my surgeon that I would almost certainly walk with a limp and have early onset osteoarthritis, amongst other problems.
Very luckily, my physiotherapist was also a Pilates teacher who had rehabilitated herself from a broken back after falling off a stage whilst ballet dancing. Cutting a long story short after a year I threw away my stick and started serious fitness training which included an 18 month intensive Pilates course. The results for me had been astounding.
Realising that not everyone could afford One2One, I decided to teach small groups and classes and have never looked back. Pilates Plus was born, this was over 30 years ago and counting!
Subsequently, I have rehabilitated myself from breast cancer surgery and reconstruction. More recently, I have used Pilates to recover from a knee replacement operation (a legacy from that car accident) but over 20 years later than my original surgeon told me I’d need it!
